"Exam Format Battle"

The activity we completed in our class on decision making really reflected how people differ in regards to their personnality. I personnaly think that I unconsciously used the avoidance trategy even though I discussed the issue with my neighbours sitting next to me.
When the situation was getting anarchic and disorganized, I felt like everyone think they have the right idea and that there is no chance of wining here. thus any attempt to propose any idea would be a waste of energy, so I decided to withdraw and accomodate to whichever decision is made at the end.

knowing what I know now about decision making, I probably would switch to the collaborating strategy.
I think we should devide the class into several small groups like we did during the egg project, then each group will aggree to a clear decision. Each group will then have one member present and sell the group's decision and write on the board the group number and the decision's key terms, and at the very end we will have a final vote and chose which decision will be picked. It will be important to make it clear that for the final vote everyone will detach themselves to any loyality concern. For example I can be from group2 and realize that group5 has a better idea and naturally vote for group5.
I think that this collaborating strategy would be more efficient and less frustrating.

Ah, totally agree, but that will never happen, it is a big class and we were really overwhelmed in the beginning so nobody really thought of organize the class as groups. Of course, I also believed that we would never reached an agreement at first, because those who spoke were always opposed in the end. Everybody just want what is best for them and people never thought of what is best for others. If we tried collaborating ,it might have worked but it would take a long time for each group to propose their ideas and then for others to argue or support. I'm just glad it finally worked out, though some people were not happy at least it is better than nothing at all.

I agree with you that the class should agree to somehow break up into smaller groups, which would allow everyone to participate and voice out their own opinions. Then the team leaders from each group would present each group's ideas, and then as a class we all vote for the best idea to be our final decision. I would also choose the collaborating strategy for an alternative to accommodation and avoidance, which are what I chose to do during the class "exercise".

I did not have much doubt that we won't reach a verdict because most of us had a stake on it. I also think that breaking down the class into smaller groups would help us reach a decision quickly but with out an experienced leader it is very tough to breaking down the class into groups.
I think what matter most is collaboration. That's where both of our thought processes get alone.

Collaborating with a whole class is almost impossible just because of what you said about personality. There will always be a clash between different personalities and each individual's thought process. Deciding on a verdict based on smaller groups would be difficult because people within those groups won't agree to the same thing. In that situation we'd have many small groups not able to make a decision which is just a derivation of how we approached it. I thought that our problem had nothing to do with how we decided, but how long it took us to get to that decision. Time was definitely a core issue and with more, the outcomes could have been better.

I think that the class should have broken into smaller groups and have a team leader that will report to another person, and vote to what we think will be accomadating to everyone as a whole. This way would have been more organized and more time effective.
