Custom Made Managers: brought to you by the DISC Test

The results of the management type test conducted in our class revealed that i am a type I manager. I think that overall the result of the test did not totally match with my personality. Infarct i don't see myself as a type of leader who has a priority of shaping and influencing the environment and other people. Rather i see myself more as a type C manager(conscientiousness.) Not that I think this is good, but i think I am more of a conservative, diplomatic and concentrating on standards and accuracy type of manager. So it would have made more sense to me if the test had revealed that i was a C, even though the result was not completely wrong as i fit some of the I type description.

I also think that i could be a type S, since I have been often said to be a patient, helping and loyal person. I would not mind working in a stable, consistent, or routine environment. I know a lot of people would say that it could be boring, but also this type of environment minimizes stress and conflicts.

I definitely think that it is important to have managers take this type of tests. This type of test is very helpful in terms of matching the future managers with their work environment and future subordinates. And not only this type of test can determine the type of manager one is, but also what type of person one is, because I think that this test in nothing but a personality test.

After working with you on our group projects, I agree that you should be in either the Conscientiousness or Steadiness stage. However, from what I have seen I tend to think that you would fall more into the Steadiness stage. You are a team player and have the ability to cooperate well with others. I also noticed that you had patience and displayed good listening skills when our group was trying to get the tasks done quickly. On the other hand, after reading your blog I can see how you would also fall into the Conscientiousness stage.

yea, by working with you I think you are sometimes steady, sometimes conscientious. I mean you always go along with others idea so you are very cooperative. Then again there was time when you brought your idea and tried to convince other to believe in it and concentrating on standards...but most of the time you are very patient, not exactly diplomatic...so I would say give it more time and see exactly what category you fall into.

I don't get the last point that you made. You said that the personality test is not accurate because you feel you are more a C type person, not I. However, at the end, you stated that the DISC test is useful that it can help to place people in the right position according to the personality test. If you thing the personality test is accurate, then the last point will make sense. But since you don't think it is accurate, then the last point is contradicted with the first point you make because if the test is not accurate, then it is not useful, and therefore not a good tool to use to place people based on the test.
